Crain's New York Business

Lawyers Held Accountable

April, 2001 - Tougher times are creating a juicy opportunity for a year-old food business designed to cater to late-night workers at law firms and investment banks.

SeamlessWeb Professional Solutions Inc., cooked up by two twenty-something attorneys who couldn't get good grub delivered to their desks at night, has mushroomed into a thriving company with an impressive roster of clients and vendors.

The appeal, says co-founder Jason Finger: SeamlessWeb does all the accounting, so companies don't have to spend precious money tracking rumpled takeout receipts and billing them to the appropriate clients.

Major firms like Dewey Ballantine, Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy and Banc of America Securities have all signed on. "Our lawyers and staff often work long hours and weekends. It's important to provide them with these extra services," says Richard McKenna, director of administration for White & Case, which launched a pilot test with the company last week.
